I came up with the name Hard Carcass after escaping the Camp Fire in Paradise, California on November 8, 2018. The Camp Fire would end up being the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in California history (up to that point) - I would joke that I had developed a "Hard Carcass" after going through that experience. The Camp Fire https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camp_Fire_(2018) destroyed ~ 90% of the homes in Paradise, CA. When we left that morning I told my wife, Desiree not to expect our home to be there when we got back because everything was on fire around us. The drive out of Paradise that morning took nearly 5 hours of driving in and out of fire (normally the trip took ~ 25 minutes). We would learn later that day that our home had survived when we received a Facebook message from a nurse at Feather River Hospital in Paradise: “I know this is random,” it read. “Is your house at ... Chloe Court in paradise?” Borden replied: “Yes. Is it gone. Are you OK?” Then the response came: “We got trapped there. It saved our life.”
Our home survived only because 13 desperate souls broke into it to escape the fire and in the process of saving their own lives ended up saving our home.

We were eventually able to sell our home and move to Fort Collins, Colorado in the Summer of 2019.

Hardcarcass.com will be the place where some of my ideas become reality.
